Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Since originating in Japan, Reiki has been adapted into varying cultural traditions across the world. Reiki is practiced in every country of the world and used in many settings including hospitals, hospice as well as in private practice and in self-care.
Reiki means "Universal Life Force Energy." This is the Vital Life Force Energy that flows through all living things. This natural healing energy is channeled through the hand of the practitioner to the recipient in a powerful and concentrated form. To become a practitioner one needs to go through an attunement process which enables them to easily access and become a conduit for the Reiki energy.
A Reiki session is NOT a massage. The client is fully clothed while comfortably reclined on a massage table or seated in a chair. A session usually lasts an hour, sometimes longer, depending on the individual needs of the client. The Reiki Practitioner uses a series of hand positions with hands placed gently on or just above the recipient's body. The energy is not guided by the practitioner. It has its own innate wisdom to guide itself where it is needed the most.
Reiki can help to relieve pain, stress and tension, release blockages, balances the body's energies, cleanses the body of toxins, strengthens the immune system and supports the body's natural ability to heal itself. This is a wonderful complementary healing and wellness modality that brings Peace & Harmony to the body, mind and soul.
Reiki is sometimes incorporated into many of the services offered at Heart of the Dove.
